Press Release from the Global Women's Coalition for Quds and Palestine Regarding the Floods in Thailand and Indonesia

The Global Women's Coalition for Quds and Palestine is following with grave concern the devastating floods and landslides in South and Southeast Asia—Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka—which have left dozens dead, hundreds missing, and displaced tens of thousands of families, creating a truly heartbreaking humanitarian crisis.

The Coalition believes that these natural disasters are divinely ordained and serve as a reminder to humanity of the values of compassion and cooperation, prompting us all to reflect on our responsibility towards one another, especially the most vulnerable.

Images from the affected areas reveal the extent of the destruction to homes, roads, and public infrastructure, highlighting the suffering of women and children who found themselves facing the floods without shelter or protection.

While expressing its full solidarity with the people of these countries, the Coalition extends a special message of support and concern to its members in Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Sri Lanka, in recognition of their resilience amidst these harsh circumstances. This includes those who were forced to leave their homes due to the floods, as well as those participating in relief efforts and supporting affected families on the ground.

The Coalition affirms that it is monitoring their situation closely and appreciates their humanitarian efforts, which reflect the spirit of women's solidarity in the most difficult of times.

In the face of this humanitarian disaster, the Global Women's Coalition for Quds and Palestine:

  • Extends its deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wishes a speedy recovery to the wounded.
  • Expresses its full solidarity with the people of Thailand and Indonesia in this great tragedy.
  • Calls upon governments and international relief organizations to take immediate action to provide essential aid, especially to women and children, who are the most vulnerable to this disaster.
  • Emphasizes the importance of strengthening the preparedness of social safety nets and investing in disaster management plans to mitigate the accelerating effects of climate change that are impacting the world and exacerbating the suffering of civilians.
  • Expresses its readiness to coordinate with women's and humanitarian organizations in Asia to support relief efforts and unify initiatives aimed at protecting the most vulnerable groups.

This humanitarian tragedy reminds the entire world that people in disaster zones—as well as those under occupation and war—need genuine international solidarity and effective humanitarian action that upholds human dignity and the right to a safe life.
